Thoughtful Thursday: If You Don’t Tell Your Story, Who Will?
A clear, consistent message is one of the most powerful gifts you can give your business—and your team.
LEAD Upstate is an annual initiative in Greenville County that thanks law enforcement officers in a big way—through a community event, recognition, and expressions of gratitude. It’s an effort close to my heart, and one that has grown stronger each year because people connect with the mission.
Last week, I was reminded just how powerful it can be to simply share your story. After a committee meeting, I had dinner with a friend and passed along a LEAD postcard. She scanned the QR code, watched last year’s video, and became visibly moved. Her first response was: “Why have I never heard about this before?”
That moment led to an extraordinary gesture of support from her, but more importantly, it underscored a timeless truth: our message carries impact—but only when we choose to share it with purpose.
The same principle holds true in business and professional life:
If you don’t define what you want to be known for, others will create their own version of your story.
If you don’t equip your staff with a consistent message, you miss opportunities for your team to amplify your impact.
And if you don’t develop and practice your elevator pitch—a clear, 30-second explanation of who you are and what you do, you may find yourself stumbling when the moment to share arrives.
This week’s thoughtful reminder:
Be clear in your message.
Share it often.
Educate and empower your team to communicate it as confidently as you do.
Because intentional words, spoken at the right time, can open doors and inspire action in ways you never imagined. Are you ready?
